My father was on the HMS Superb 50 - 52, he was in the marines. He was Henry (Harry) Cunningham. I have a copy of his records but they don't tellme a lot. I know he went to South America. He died in 1999 in NZ

Having now returned from a short break after the last Reunion on 1.10.11 at the King Charles Hotel, I feel it important that tribute be paid to our Head Cook, Bottlewasher, Secretary, Chairman etc., Fred Kinsey, for carrying out yet another "Superb" Reunion. It was noticeable that he was a bit off colour on the night and I think we all owe him a great debt of gratitude for holding the Association together, as many would not take on the task of keeping in touch with Shipmates, compiling 4 Newsletters a year, which are copied and sent to all the members wherever they now live, organising the Reunion and entertainment and very often representing the Association at the funerals of those who crossed the bar.

Fred was a little disappointed in that numbers this year, had dropped to around 40, but we have to take into account that most of our members were youngsters by comparison when they served on the Super-B fifty odd years ago.

Sadly news was received of two more bereavements and I might not have made it if it hadn't been for the skills of my surgeon, who at the beginning of the year advised I might only last 6-12 months!

It was good to see many old faces who turn up regularly and I hope to see them all again next year.

Just to inform anyone who may be interested that Buck (Ken) Taylor who was on the 1954/55 American and West Indies cruise died on 31st July at home in bed. He was cremated at Falconwood on 16th August.

I have also contacted Buster (Alf) Brown who was a shipmate on the same cruise and hopes that he will become a member.

My maiden name was Rosalind Shead and I was christened on H.M.S.Superb. I was born on 4th Feb 1948 and my father Cyril David Shead was serving on the ship at the time. I think the ship was having a refit and that is why I could be christened on the vessel.I was told that my name was in the inside of the bell. Does anyone know what happened to the bell?

What a wonderful night om 2nd October
in a well organised reunion at the King Charles Hotel, Gillingham.

The meal was excellent, varied, tasty and served on hot plates by a polite staff.

Thanks Fred you did well and I want to come back next year.

Oh and by the way we won the star prize - n original painting - which is now haging on our wall down in the south of France.

Nice to meet some oldies names that I remembered and some new friends who are all still young in heart.

The Association held the Annual Reunion at the King Charles Hotel in Gillingham (used to be the old NAAFI many years back)over the last weekend when around 50 members met up once again and enjoyed a "Superb" dinner on Saturday night. It was good to see many old friends who attended, due once again, to a lot of hard work put in by Fred Kinsey, who should be congratulated on his usual good organisation.

It would be nice to see some of the other members who like us who attended, are probably also getting older but I'm sure would enjoy meeting up with others for an enjoyable weekend.

Why not polish up your walking stick, crutches or zimmer frame, or grease the wheels of your wheelchair and try and join us next year?

Long shot this. I had an oppo on the Superb in 1955 who had rather a long and colourful name, (SA(V) Michael Carol Richard Sidney Smith. All searches through the normal channels failed to produce results and he's not a member of the Association. Anyone out there know his whereabouts?
